    This position is based at our PPL Center.  PPL Center is a state-of-the-art multipurpose venue in downtown Allentown, PA. The arena seats more than 10,000 for concerts and more than 8,500 for Lehigh Valley Phantoms professional hockey games, making it the region's largest events venue. The amenities-packed PPL Center, which includes more than 50 premium spaces (suites, loges, party areas) depending on the event, will host more than 150 events each year, offering something for everyone, including the Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers, concerts, family shows, trade shows, youth sports, high school and collegiate events, Disney on Ice, conferences, graduations and many more events.     Responsibilities

    The primary responsibility of this position is guest safety and the security of PPL Center with an emphasis on guest service.  It is the responsibility of the Event Security Staff to enforce all rules, regulations and policies of the PPL Center.  Some of your responsibilities are listed below, but are not limited to the following:

     

    • Provide excellent service to all guests, staff, and visitors of PPL Center;
    • Follow and enforce PPL Center policies, procedures, and code of conduct to protect the safety and well-being of all guests and the facility;
    • Monitor entry and exit points to various areas of PPL Center, both public and back of house, having knowledge of all rules and regulations for admittance to your area and knowledge of authorized credentials;
    • Screen guests and their personal property while properly operating and monitoring metal detectors, to include hand wand and contact searches as required or requested;
    • Take proactive measures to prevent/diffuse the risk of confrontation and to maintain safe habits and standards;
    • Gain control of resistive/assaultive subjects using physical force only as a last resort;
    • Investigate incidents as required, in such situations as injuries, property damage, theft/loss and guest misconduct;
    • Quickly respond to any crowd control/management issues, break up physical altercations, provide escorts to unruly guests when ejections are warranted;
    • Aid in the orderly evacuation of PPL Center during emergencies;
    • Provide security escorts when required;
    • Be in assigned uniform at all times while on duty;
    • Attend to your assigned position during the course of your shift – DO NOT LEAVE UNLESS YOU ARE REPLACED;
    • Have knowledge of building layout, including restrooms and exits;
    • Assist in seating discrepancies and clearing aisles;
    • Informing Supervisor of developing issues before they occur;
    • Be aware of all special functions or activities that occur during the event.
    • Write detailed reports to maintain accurate records in the event of further investigation or litigation in the future;
    • Perform all other duties as assigned by your Supervisor

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years old;
    • High School diploma or GED, previous security experience preferred but not required;
    • Effective oral communication and writing skills in the English; additional languages a plus
    • Ability to interact with guests and staff with a professional and friendly appearance and attitude
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team;
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including but not limited to nights, weekends and select holidays

    Intellectual/Social Demands:

    While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role require directing others either verbally or in writing and also requires constant use of interpersonal skills.

     

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee must be physically and mentally able to deal with conflict situations, constantly stands and/or moves about/around the facility to observe, report, and provide superior service.

     

    Work environment:

    The essential functions of this position are usually performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud to during events and minimal during non-events.
