  • Overview

    The Catering Sales Manager has a primary duty of making sales and obtaining orders or contracts for venue.  This position is responsible for generating, managing and coordinating outside catering sales, as well as initiating, directing and implementing marketing functions in the Catering Department.  The Sales Manager will independently manage and oversee all aspects of full group operations from reservation, through contract negotiation and finalization, to group reception and event catering. 


    The Catering Sales Manager maintains a consistently positive and professional relationship with internal and external clients. The Sales Manager will handle sales and customer service issues including providing outstanding customer service; researching, resolving and clarifying invoice questions; and providing knowledgeable and appropriate suggestions regarding menu selections.  The Sales Manager will facilitate the flow of information internally, as well as communicate with all guests and vendors. Must be available to assist with general catering operations as needed.   


    The Catering Sales Manager must be able to work a variable shift, including evenings and weekends, depending upon event requirements, to best serve our customers.


    This position is based at our Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.     • Managing events from onset, including meeting with clients or event planners, creating necessary paperwork, and being the customer’s go-to person on event day.
    • Creating and distributing proposals, contracts, and Banquet Event Orders as assigned. Facilitating communication between Culinary and Banquet staff.
    • Responding to and managing requests for internal meetings/events.
    • Covering events as assigned.
    • Assisting with large events alongside Catering Sales Manager.
    • Attending/taking notes during Team Meetings.
    • Answering the Catering Sales office phone line and managing all messages for Catering Sales Managers as needed.
    • Collecting and processing payments, finalizing/distributing invoices for events.
    • Coordinating with our small business partners and vendors for event deliveries and pick-ups, etc.
    • Other administrative duties as assigned.



    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S) or equivalent from four-year college; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 2 or more years in a sales role, with verifiable sales success.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


    • Demonstrates proficiency and successful experience in catering sales generation, contract negotiation, event scheduling, catering, banquets and menu development.
    • Keen interest in cultivating a career within the events industry.
    • Work independently with little supervision. Self-starter.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office programs with an emphasis on creating word documents, Excel spreadsheets, email).
    • Adhere to high standard of business etiquette, professional verbal and written communication.
    • Consistently represent the Company in a professional, positive and knowledgeable manner.
    • Ability to adhere to highest standard of confidentiality and discretion.
    • Demonstrates ability to produce detail-oriented, accurate work.
    • Ability to work an event driven schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays. A typical work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM if no events are scheduled.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to complete off-site sales errands as needed.
    • Makes solid, appropriate and independent decisions.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and accommodate on-site changes.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Ability to use proactive planning strategies to ensure events run smoothly.
    • Superior customer service.

    Physical Dimensions:
    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects (files, boxes, etc.).
