  • Overview

    Based at the Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells property, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and accounting.  This position also has oversight responsibilities to enforce the application of all internal controls to secure all assets including cash, accounts receivable, and physical inventory.

    • Responsible for managing, developing and mentoring onsite and remote accounting support teams.
    • This includes initiating all employment actions such as hiring, performance management and termination, if necessary.
    • Establish work place expectations; provide on-going assistance and promote a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative workplace environment.
    • Actively coach, counsel, direct, train and mentor accounting team in meeting company standards. Delegate tasks efficiently and develop team to next level.
    • Ensure timely and accurate submission of accounting data to the corporate office by the Office Assistant and Director of Operations.
    • Assist with basic payroll functions: compile and process hourly payroll, data entry, and timekeeping verification, ensure state and W-4 tax forms are complete and on file; maintain employee deductions file.
    • Provide accounting support to departments.
    • Reconcile sales reports prior to month end postings. Oversee document coding.  Calculate commissions earned.
    • Collect data from multiple sources and generate reports of Spectra’s event operating results to venue management team and the corporate Finance Department. Includes flash reports, catering activity recaps and sales reports. Perform month end closing, reconciliations and entries.
    • Safeguard company assets through close monitoring of accounting procedures; conduct audits as needed.
    • Reconcile bank deposits to sales reports, inventory levels, payroll reporting, A/P and A/R activities.
    • Prepare current workbooks containing financial information by event type. Supervise preparation of NFP reports by event, and payroll reporting by event types, if required by venue.
    • Assist Director of Operations and Office Manager with forecast and variance reporting. Analyze discrepancies and suggest a course of corrective action.


    • Thorough understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices.
    • High level of proficiency with computers, Microsoft applications, accounting/payroll/HRIS systems. Fluency in Sage financial management systems necessary.
    • Extensive experience in Excel preparing spreadsheets and reports.
    • Strong experience following established processes and policies, attention to detail, accuracy of work and adherence to meeting deadlines.
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing, environment. Must work well under pressure of deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate with team members, co-workers, management, and guests in a clear, businesslike and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
    • Experience in hiring, mentoring, training and performance management. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Ability to adhere to highest standards of ethics, integrity, professionalism, and discretion. • Ability to execute solid management decisions quickly and efficiently. 
    • Ability and willingness to work extended hours (i.e. evenings, weekends, and holidays), as frequently required by business necessity.
    • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with company and business contacts.
    • Ability to travel between accounting offices for business needs and/or demands.
    • Ability to “step in” and perform any of the duties by a vacant position.
    • Experience in coaching, training and mentoring direct reports and department heads

    Education and Experience:  

    • Bachelor’s Degree with course work in Accounting. Minimum of 5 years accounting experience with supervisory responsibilities. Accounting in the hospitality and/or venue management preferred.

    Physical Dimensions:  

    • Medium Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to move objects (files, boxes).
